RANDOLPH PLACE CONDOMINIUMS
Converting an early 20th century building to new residences was a unique challenge for all parties. Our office supplied extensive field services throughout the project to document the existing structural components and to assess the feasibility of the various proposed unit layouts.
As the popularity of the project grew, the developer looked to add units on roof of the structure. Substantial modifications were incorporated into an existing mechanical space in the Northeast corner to create a two-story unit and additional spaces were built along the East elevation. Each of these units was constructed with a private roof-top deck, which were marketing necessities. To alleviate the live load from the existing roof, these decks were designed with a steel grid spanning to the existing structural columns below.
This project was named the “Loft Project of the Year” by the Chicago Sun Times.
